Ed Knapp of Sylvia is into some
big stuff -- huge timbers, that is. The owner of Vintage Beam and
Timbers, he uses reclaimed wood from old structures and incorporates
them into new ones. His travels to retrieve the wood
take him around the world.
Knapp spent six months in China last year reclaiming antique teak
dating to the Ming Dynasty. He heads to South Africa for a job after he
finishes work on a current project in Hawaii.
And his handiwork will be featured on an edition of "Extreme
Makeover: Home Edition" airing at 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday on ABC.
"We put in 12-by-12 hickory beams that were 27 feet long we salvaged
from an old barn in western Pennsylvania," Knapp said. |
